Each card number has a 4-digit PIN associated with it that is needed to access account information online.
When a library card is issued, a PIN is automatically generated using the last four digits of the account holder's phone number. This PIN can be changed at the time the card is issued or later by the patron through the online system.
If you are logged in to your library account, you can place a hold on many items from our catalog. You can also contact the library at 616-772-0874 to have a librarian put an item on hold. We will contact you when the items are available for pickup at the library or you can use our Curbside Service.
The book drop located on the parking lot side of the building is open 24 hours a day and accepts most types of library materials. An additional drop box is available near the Circulation Desk during regular business hours. Please return oversized items and electronic equipment directly to the Circulation Desk.
Borrowed materials will automatically renew three days before their due date, up to two times, provided there are no holds on the item. Certain materials—including Mobile Hotspots, Launchpads, NOOKs, Kindles, and Express Books—are not eligible for renewal. You will receive a notification if an item cannot be renewed.
All the items at Howard Miller Public Library are fines-free. If you take an item from our shelf you will not be charged if it comes back late. However, not all libraries in the Lakeland Cooperative have gone fines free. Interlibrary-loaned materials from other libraries may accrue late fines. You can call the library to ask if the item you have checked out is from a library that charges for overdue items.
Lost or damaged items will result in a fine that is dependent on the individual item.

If your library card is lost or stolen, please let us know right away so we can help protect your account from unauthorized use. Until your card is reported missing, cardholders are responsible for any items borrowed and any related charges.
