Howard Miller Endowment Fund
Founded in 1998, the Beyond Books Endowment Fund was created to expand services at the Howard Miller Public Library. Managed by the Holland/Zeeland Community Foundation, the fund reached its $1 million goal in 2007. The first distribution in 2008—$31,900—helped launch new programs, technology, and equipment.
Gifts to the Endowment Fund help the library grow and innovate. Donations can be made anytime through the Holland/Zeeland Community Foundation.
Together, we can ensure the Howard Miller Public Library remains a vibrant and innovative resource for generations to come.
We accept gently used books, DVDs, and CDs (less than 20 years old). Items may be added to the collection, used for programming, or sold to support library services.
We cannot accept:
- Encyclopedias, textbooks, or magazines
- VHS or cassette tapes
- Technical manuals
- Items with mold, mildew, or strong odors
Endowment distributions enrich library services, including:
- Programs for children, teens, and adults
- New technologies, equipment, and furnishings
- Media collections, online resources, and databases
- Unique collections and capital projects
Funds are managed separately from the general budget. Proposals are reviewed by the Library Advisory Board and approved by City Council. Recent projects include digitizing the Zeeland Record and sound improvements in the library.
