The Howard Miller Public Library proudly serves a community of approximately 26,000 residents in the City of Zeeland, Zeeland Township, Olive Township, and parts of Blendon Township in western Michigan. Conveniently located in the heart of downtown at 14 South Church Street, the library is a vibrant hub of information, discovery, and connection.
Our collection includes over 65,000 physical items and more than 43,000 digital resources, with access to eBooks, audiobooks, streaming content, and research tools through platforms like MeL (Michigan eLibrary). As a member of the Lakeland Library Cooperative, we offer interlibrary loan services, expanding access to materials across the region.
The library hosts engaging programs and events for all ages throughout the year, attracting thousands of participants. Visitors can also explore local history and genealogy resources, utilize a Michigan Activity Pass for discounted admission to cultural sites, discover new reads with Wowbrary, our digital newsletter, and track their reading goals using Beanstack.
The Howard Miller Public Library is a department of the City of Zeeland and is overseen by City Council, with guidance and input from an appointed Library Advisory Board.
Completed in 1995, this library is beautifully designed, making use of natural light with plenty of windows, an open atrium between the upper and lower levels, and a translucent vaulted ceiling. Poised in the library is a sculpture by Les Scruggs (1941-) titled Hester Prynne. Named after the character in The Scarlet Letter, Hester is carved out of black walnut wood. Near the magazine reading area hangs a colorful stained glass window created by local artist, John Vander Burgh (1916-2004), honoring the founders of Zeeland and their journey to America. Two Howard Miller grandfather clocks keep time within the building.
The library was renovated in 2015-2016. The Children's area was expanded as part of the renovation as well as more study rooms being created. In addition to these expansions, this library incorporated two new self check-out kiosks for its patrons.
There is a Google 360 tour of the library available on Google maps for your viewing pleasure (below).

Flag Disposal
In cooperation with the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Community Center has become a flag disposal site. There is a box located in the lobby of the Community Center at the west end. This is a way to respectfully dispose of your American flags.
